Headband Fundamentals

That crazy nanny, Maria had a point when she sang "Let's start at the very beginning." Shortly after however, she lost me with all of her singing nonsense.

All the time people come up to me and ask me, "What is the right way to wear a headband?" And time after time I tell them Cyndi Lauper really has over processed hair.

In all honestly you can't really mess up wearing a headband and that's part of the reason why they are so great. But like I do so often, I spoke too soon.

Do not wear a headband made out of sweat-pant material to work. Or anywhere for that matter! Especially, if you work in an office, are in your late fifties, hold phones close to your left ear and stare at the ceiling tile that slightly resembles Phil Collins.

Second, if you are having troubles positioning the headband on the top of your head, please do not resort to putting it over your face. Not only will it hinder vision, but you may also have strangers approach you with requests of singing "The Reading Rainbow" theme song.

Don't know what I am referencing? Lucky you! But if you feel so inclined to be in the loop here's a link. I promise it will get stuck in your head if you listen to it a few times in a row.

Lastly, when wearing a headband make sure you brush... well at the very least wash your hair. Just because you have a very cute and unique hairpiece, it doesn't exempt you from basic personal hygiene.

Step by Step guide to wash hair:

  • Wet your hair properly before applying shampoo on your hair.
  • Use shampoo according to your hair length. Excessive shampoo may harm your hair. If your hair is long use a tablespoon of shampoo, if you hair is short use shampoo in lesser quantity.
  • Massage on your scalp to remove the dead skin cells. Dead skin cells often result in dandruff.
  • Rinse your hair well. Make sure no shampoo is left in your hair.
  • Apply conditioner. Do not apply it on your roots, but apply on the ends. The ends are damaged most and require extra care. Leave the conditioner for at least a minute.
  • Rinse your hair if necessary. Check the conditioner. If the conditioner is a leave-in one do not rinse, otherwise use less water to rinse your hair.
  • Squeeze out as much water as you can from your hair.
  • Blot your hair with a towel to remove water. Do not rub the towel, as it may hold fibers damaging your hair.
  • Avoid using a blow dryer. Let your hair air-dry.
That was for you Keith Richards.

Even though you are 67 years old and revealed in a magazine interview that deep down inside you want to be a librarian, doesn't make your hair stink less than the rest of us. Or does it?? Aw, who cares! If you are a rock star you can get away with anything.!

Headbands Anyone?

Hello Blog World!
It all started one day while I was watching a silly little show called Gossip Girl.  I thought, "I like the preppy, vintage look that Blair Waldorf is sporting. I bet I can make those pieces."
I began Nancy Drewing second-hand shops through Alberta and various other places (pretty much any where we travel and by "we" I mean my husband and I; I am not one of those 3rd person types). I was very excited with the beauties I found.
Now I make one-of-a-kind vintage headpieces, mainly headbands and hair clips. I pretty much recycle the pieces that people throw out when they go through Grandma's jewelry box and breathe new life into them. I also have a stock of some really sweet brooches as well. I will do custom orders (if you have a particular color of ribbon or jewel) and have participated in many Handmade Mafia Shows in Edmonton as well as a fashion show in Calgary.
